To the DAISY Award Foundation, I am writing to formally recognize and nominate the Infusion Team at Tunnell Cancer Center for the Team DAISY Award. It is with great pride and gratitude that I share my experience working alongside this extraordinary group of nurses and caregivers. After being off the floor for over a year while welcoming my baby, I returned to giving chemotherapy. A few new team members had joined the Infusion Team during my absence. Because of this, I did not initially have the opportunity to truly get to know many of them while I was away from the bedside. Since returning to the floor, I have had the chance to work closely with the team and see their care, dedication, and teamwork firsthand, which has truly been eye-opening. Being back at the bedside has given me a completely different perspective and a much deeper appreciation for everything that happens behind the scenes.
While previously working as an infusion charge nurse, Infusion Coordinator, and in triage roles, I did not fully see the extent of the coordination, effort, and collaboration required to keep the infusion area running so seamlessly. What I have witnessed over the past two weeks has been nothing short of exceptional. In all my years in nursing, I honestly cannot recall working with a team that functions with such a high level of communication, collaboration, and mutual support. Every team member steps in willingly, anticipates needs, and contributes to an environment where no one feels alone. Getting to know this team on a deeper level has been an overwhelmingly positive and humbling experience. What truly sets the Infusion Team apart is their unwavering support for their patients. The team consistently prioritizes patient comfort and emotional well-being, going above and beyond to care for patients as best they can. They take the time to celebrate both small victories and big milestones, creating moments of hope and encouragement that mean everything to patients and their families.
In a population facing such fragility and uncertainty, the team consistently fosters a positive outlook, compassion, and reassurance, making a profound difference in patients' journeys. Patients recognize this exceptional care and teamwork on a daily basis. Day after day, patients openly compliment the collaboration they observe chair-side, frequently noting how connected, attentive, and supportive the team is toward one another and their patients. This visible teamwork fosters trust, comfort, and confidence at a time when it is needed most. Overall, this team is truly extraordinary. The cooperation, trust, encouragement, and compassion I have experienced reflects the very heart of nursing excellence. The Infusion Team at Tunnell Cancer Center embodies professionalism, empathy, and teamwork not only in how they support one another, but ultimately in how they care for every patient they serve. I am deeply grateful and truly blessed to be part of such an outstanding team. The Infusion Team at Tunnell Cancer Center exemplifies everything the DAISY Award represents and is more than deserving of recognition through the Team DAISY Award.
