I would like to recognize Ty Wells for his great contribution in saving my wife's life. When my wife coded, every single person who rushed into the room tried hard to save her life and I am very grateful. Ty proved that his chest compressions were coming from the heart. Every time he compressed her chest her number got better. Therefore, the doctor asked him to go at it again and that was the one that brought my wife back and saved her life. I am very thankful that our paths crossed that morning. No words can express how extraordinary he is to me and my family.

I received a call that one of our patients was experiencing a Code Blue. This patient was a young woman who had given birth to her son twenty-one days ago. She came to Baptist Memphis with shortness of breath. She was placed on IV meds and appeared to be doing well until this scary morning. On arrival to the patient's room, my eyes were directed to the actions of one man at her side. He was giving chest compressions with a fierce determination that this patient, wife, and mother of four would survive. He was strong and focused, delivering compressions with accuracy, speed, and depth. There were other rescuers who helped relieve but the physician continued to call Ty back to the patient's side. Ty Wells, RN, never gave up. Though tired, he continued. Later on, Ty said he pictured that patient's twenty-one-day old baby boy in his mind. He knew that the baby and family needed their mother and wife. CPR continued for over 40 minutes which is a very long time for a resuscitation effort. Due to Ty's determination, skill, and high-quality CPR, along with the efforts of the medical response team, this woman was fully resuscitated with no residual deficits. She is now awake, alert, and well on her way to return home as a healthy woman with her family. No one will ever forget the brave, steady work of Ty Wells, the nurse by her side. He exemplifies the qualities of heroism and outstanding patient care that we strive to achieve as nurses.
