Tyler cared for G with enthusiasm, making sure that her pain management, treatment, and comfort, and very importantly, her spirits were maintained.
My wife of 28 years G was a colorectal patient and regular on the ninth floor between January 2017 and our last stay of March 2019.
G received 2 high-temperature peritoneal chemotherapy surgeries (HIPEC), robotic lug surgery, two ileostomy reversal, surgery to repair an anastomotic leak, and various other admissions. Our final admission had G hospitalized for pneumonia. From this stay, we transitioned to hospice on the 7th floor where G passed.
During our many stays on 9LP, we were cared for by RN Tyler Brumley who admitted us following G's 2nd HIPEC surgery. She is always very caring, energetic, positive, and helpful. She cared for G with enthusiasm, making sure that her pain management, treatment, and comfort, and very importantly, her spirits were maintained. She engaged with me, G, and my two daughters often to discuss any needs and concerns that we had. She is a good listener and does her best to address our needs. It was not uncommon for her to come by after her shift to say goodnight and compare her schedule to our expected discharge. We looked forward to having her care for us. As an engaged advocate I often stayed with G. Knowing that Tyler was her nurse would allow me to relax a bit. Being a cancer patient is very hard but having an abdominal surgery result in enteroatmospheric fistula and a 54-day stay was an extreme complication that occurred to us and resulted in a lot of needed care including antibiotics, pain management, wound care, and nourishment. It was extremely complicated, and we needed capable nurse staff to be at the front line of this care. Tyler did all of these things with great skill and compassion. When G passed away, Tyler shared her respect by coming to our home to attend her celebration of life ceremony. For outstanding patient care under difficult conditions, Tyler is a true DAISY Nurse.
