Tyler Harker, RN

Tyler Harker had a patient who was a DNR and having trouble swallowing. The patient wanted to eat as part of her end-of-life care plan. The patient was being followed by GI for a possible procedure but had not been rounded on recently. Tyler encouraged the primary doctor to contact GI, however the primary doctor refused. Tyler proceeded to contact the GI doctor himself, advocating for his patient. The GI doctor reviewed the chart and eventually took the patient for the procedure, allowing her to eat afterwards.
The patient and family were happy and thankful for Tyler’s dedication. Tyler cared for his patient by going beyond to fulfill his patient’s wishes. While here in the hospital, the patient was able to eat cake and ice cream in celebration of her 95th birthday. A happy memory for both the patient and her family.
