Tyler was nominated six times by the family members of different patients, including adult children, a spouse, and even a fellow AH nurse, all sharing the profound impact he had during some of their most difficult moments in the ICU.

Repeatedly, families described Tyler as a calming, compassionate presence during overwhelming and often traumatic situations. Whether caring for a patient after a STEMI, supporting a family through an unexpected intubation, or guiding loved ones during a prolonged ICU stay, Tyler consistently brought comfort and reassurance. One family member shared that despite a difficult prognosis, Tyler “made my whole family feel less worried,” while another described his calm demeanor as “a godsend.”

Tyler’s ability to communicate stood out in every nomination. He took time to explain complex situations thoroughly and with patience, often sitting at the bedside and ensuring both patients and families understood what was happening. One nomination emphasized that he explained “EVERYTHING that had just occurred,” and that it was not just what he said, but “the manner in which he delivered the information” that brought comfort.

Beyond his clinical skill, Tyler consistently treated patients with dignity and respect. He engaged elderly patients as individuals, with one family member noting he treated their loved one as a “knowledgeable woman” rather than speaking down to her. His presence was described as warm and genuine, bringing “compassion and laughter that lit up the whole room” and even being called a “ray of sunshine” in the ICU.

For many, Tyler’s impact extended beyond the patient. He supported families through fear and uncertainty, providing “hope & peace” and creating a sense of calm in moments of crisis.
