My mother was admitted to Sentara RMH. Because of her illness, she was taken to CCU for care. The RN assigned to my mother was Tyler Thompson. From the first moment that we entered my mother's room, Tyler was professional and sympathetic to the feelings and emotions that our family was facing. She took the time to talk with my dad and answer questions that he had about procedures, medical equipment, and Mom's treatment plan. As the family held vigil by the bedside, Tyler was aware of the deep love and connection that our family had to Mom. Tyler was more than an RN, she was an understanding and empathetic soul that our family grew to love. She always had a smile on her face and she was truly engaged in the conversations that we had with her. The five days that Mom remained in CCU, we were fortunate enough to have Tyler with us for four of them. She does set the bar high for patient care and having an amazing bedside manner. Tyler made a lasting impression that our family will never forget. Although my mother never did regain consciousness, I am certain that my mother had the best care as she prepared to receive her angel wings. Tyler deserves to be recognized for going above and beyond to help both the patient and the affected family and friends.
