Tyler's clinical skill and especially his compassionate care exemplify the kind of nurse that our patients, their families, and our staff recognize as an outstanding role model. In the time that Tyler has been in our department, I have witnessed him consistently going above and beyond to help other staff members, family members and patients in any way that he can. He is professional, team-oriented and dependable. It is instinctive for Tyler to perform extraordinary acts of kindness and compassion.
About two weeks ago a patient came in claiming that he had bed bugs. As the story unfolded in turned out the patient was homeless and was only claiming that he had bed bugs because he had a job interview the next day and he wanted to take a shower before his interview. After the patient was decontaminated, he was given clean clothes to change into. The patient's shoes were falling apart and busting at the seams. He wore a size 14 so finding him a pair of shoes that fit was next to impossible. Without hesitation, Tyler took off his size 14 shoes and donated them to the patient. Tyler wore a pair of hospital socks and trauma booties in place of his shoes for the rest of his shift.
This is only one example of Tyler's eagerness to ensure the comfort of others. His positive attitude and behaviors are constantly impacting patient outcomes significantly. Tyler is a great role model and an inspiration to all nurses. To top it off, the patient got the job!
