Tyson was quick to learn this patient’s favorite type of music and their favorite artist. He was often seen in the room, Garth Brooks echoing in the halls and singing songs to the patient in an effort to make them just a little more comfortable.
If any nurse in this hospital exemplifies the excellence that MMC hopes for in their nurses, Tyson should be the example they hold up for others.

Earlier this year, a younger patient on our unit who was unable to communicate his needs effectively experienced a Code Blue. Tyson was one of the first people in the room, and worked tirelessly with his peers to help the patient when help was slow to arrive. The patient was ultimately transferred off the unit to a higher level of care, something that affected our floor deeply. Tyson’s exemplary nursing hardly stopped at that code.

Thankfully, the patient recovered enough and returned to our floor with their parents, endlessly thankful for the work of nurses, doctors, and staff. Tyson was quick to learn this patient’s favorite type of music and their favorite artist. He was often seen in the room, Garth Brooks echoing in the halls and singing songs to the patient in an effort to make them just a little more comfortable. He often cracked jokes or carried on conversation at the bedside, even when he wasn’t this patient’s primary nurse. His care and compassion not only seemed to support the patient through a time that was difficult and often scary but also helped to ease the anxieties of their family, as well.

Tyson consistently excels at connecting with patients at whatever level they come to us at, through music, comedy, or conversation. His creativity and humanity shine through in every patient interaction, even when times are turbulent. He embodies what nursing care should be.
