Ulices Hurtado, RN, BSN
I am honored to recognize my co-registered nurse Ulices for the DAISY Award in recognition of his outstanding teamwork, clinical excellence, and professionalism within our mental health inpatient hospital here in Santa Rosa Behavioral Healthcare Hospital.
Ulices, leadership and composure were especially evident during a clinical moment when our team managed two simultaneous code blue emergencies in A & R, one involving a patient experiencing a seizure and another in severe alcohol withdrawal before the arrival of EMS. Despite the intensity of the situation Ulices demonstrated exceptional coordination, rapid assessment, and calm, effective communication that ensured both patient’s received timely and appropriate care.
Ulices consistently exhibits the same level of professionalism during other high-risk situations, including manual holds, seclusion procedures, and the de-escalation of agitated or aggressive patients. His ability to remain steady, respectful, and safety-focused reflects deep clinical understanding and emotional intelligence essential in psychiatric nursing.
Ulices is a dedicated mentor to newly hired registered nurses, providing clear, supportive instructions that strengthens their confidence and competence whenever his assistance is needed for support as an individual or a team member. During a med nurse code blue training, Ulices demonstrated thorough knowledge of every item and piece of equipment in the emergency cart, ensuring the entire team is well-prepared for real emergencies.
Ulices commitment to excellence even as a house supervisor, responding and returning calls promptly is another aspect of his professionalism to talk about another day.
I believe his excellence elevates the inpatient unit NOC shifts and exemplifies the spirit of the DAISY award.
