I would like to nominate our Urgent Care team of nurses for the DAISY Team Award. Our nurses work collaboratively to ensure the best possible outcome for our patients by going above and beyond the typical duties of our unit.
Recently, the nursing staff was alerted by PAS of an unresponsive patient in a car in the LUC parking lot, and the family was asking for help. The nurses working that day, along with the two providers, all jumped into action, working together calmly and with compassion and professionalism as they initiated life-saving care to a patient who was in cardiac arrest. The team worked closely together, understanding each other's roles and responsibilities, knowing each could trust their co-worker's clinical judgment and skills in a highly acute situation, communicating with each other clearly and effectively. The nurses used their ACLS skills in collaboration with Livermore PD and LPFD to provide the best CPR with the limited resources available in the Urgent Care. Care was ultimately relinquished to Falck paramedics, and the nursing staff comforted the family and provided direction, making a meaningful connection in a chaotic situation.
This is the second time in less than three months that a code situation has occurred outside of the Urgent Care unit, and the nurses and providers did not hesitate to react and respond. The nurses in the Urgent Care are committed to the highest standards of nursing practice, exemplifying the mission, vision, and values of SHC Tri-Valley.
