There was an immediate connection without words ever being used, but we all felt the love and commitment from Nurse Ursula.
The year 2021 has been a continuum of severe changes and challenges for my daughter and for our family as well. Fleeing the potential harms of Hurricane Ida, my daughter’s Oncologist highly recommended Texas Children’s Hospital as her best place of receiving the best pain management and care during her time of need following our emergency evacuation.

As a mother, we expect quality care during our child’s hospital stays, but as a healthcare member myself, I do not always get to witness and personally experience such care, yet here at Texas Children’s Hospital, I have. I have been a nurse for 30+ years and I am delighted to witness nursing at its finest. From the new grads to the seasoned nurses on the unit, my chest stood full like a proud mother for this unit of quality and caring nurses. My family voiced nothing but positivity as well. In this summarization I would like to acknowledge one nurse exclusively, Nurse Ursula Campbell.

Nurse Ursula was sent by God to mentor my daughter, T, as she faces her biggest challenge in life… the diagnosis of end of life. Ms. Ursula unknowingly was assigned to T as her unit nurse on a day that she needed that voice of assurance, that guidance that “we must go on”, and that loud laugh that lit up the room showing her that today will be a good day. There was an immediate connection without words ever being used, but we all felt the love and commitment from her. To add to our stay, Nurse Ursula worked the weekend to assist with staffing and voiced to T that she wished to be assigned as her nurse again, and oh what a joy that gesture alone bought to T’s face.

I personally would like to say “Thank You” for a job well done to all of the staff members of the Hematology/Oncology Team of the 7th floor West Tower here at Texas Children’s Hospital. We needed you most at this time and we extend our love to you. Our love is also extended to our nurse, Ursula, as a person who demonstrated great leadership and mentoring to our team during our stay. Heaven may gain an angel in the near future but our family has gained a friend forever. Thank you, Nurse Ursula.
