My father was admitted to the hospital through the ED. He was diagnosed with pancreatitis. During this time, visitors were restricted and I was not able to be with him. Throughout the entire stay, all the nurses were excellent in helping us stay informed via phone calls. The first night nurse he had was Ute. When I called early in the morning before Ute left, she was so helpful in putting my mind at ease. She was able to tell me more information about his labs and how he did overnight. She described what meds she had administered for pain and nausea/vomiting and how he responded to medications.
After talking with her, I believed my father was truly receiving great care. She clearly had a good sense of how her patient, my father, was doing and was able to communicate this to his family during a time when family member visitations were limited. I was grateful for all nurses caring for my father, but I was especially thankful that during this critical time in the hospital, my father had Ute taking care of him.
