I am writing to tell you the act of kindness Val provided for a patient who was having difficulty hearing. The patient had hearing aids, but the batteries had died the night before he came into the hospital. The patient struggled most of his admission to understand what anyone was telling him and even felt bad for his roommate, knowing the staff must be elevating our voices just for him. Val asked if any family was nearby to bring batteries. To the patient's dismay, they all lived too far away. Val pulled me aside, gave me her debit card, and asked me to purchase batteries for his hearing aids without hesitation or worry about the price. Val helped the patient put the new batteries in. He was overjoyed by this act.
