Valerie now holds the standard for the amount of compassion and support a nurse should have for their patients. It is hard to begin to explain my gratitude for having Valerie as my nurse. When I was admitted to the hospital, I was in the worst pain of my life, while also being 18 weeks pregnant and worried for the health of my baby and myself. Not only did Valerie stay on top of my physical care and medicine to make sure I was as comfortable as possible, but she made sure my mental health was also as stable as possible. She consistently advocated for me making sure I had absolutely everything I needed, even before I had the chance to ask for it myself; she always knew exactly what to do. She went above and beyond to show kindness and reassurance to know that the hospital and she would do everything they could to make sure I was well again. I was in the hospital for a few days, and when her shift ended the first night I felt sad knowing that she wouldn’t be in the room to gently tend to me anymore. The following night when I saw her name written on the whiteboard as my nurse again, my spirit immediately lifted knowing that she would be gracefully caring for me again.
