During busy shifts, when many healthcare professionals are focused on simply getting through the workload, Valerie reminds the team of why they chose this profession in the first place.
Many team members and colleagues would like to nominate this outstanding nurse for recognition. Valerie consistently demonstrates compassion, leadership, and dedication that positively impact both patients and the entire care team.

One colleague shared an example of witnessing Valerie quickly notice an elderly, confused patient attempting to stand with assistance from a spouse. Valerie approached calmly and compassionately, helping ensure the patient’s safety while also reassuring the spouse with kindness and respect. The situation was handled with such care that the patient never felt alarmed, and the family member clearly felt supported.

Another colleague described Valerie as an exceptionally hardworking team member who demonstrates leadership through both actions and attitude. This nurse frequently steps into roles outside of their own responsibilities when help is needed, even adjusting their personal schedule to ensure the team and patients are supported. They are approachable, knowledgeable, and someone others naturally turn to for guidance. Their patience and willingness to mentor colleagues make them an invaluable resource to the team.

What truly sets Valerie apart, however, is their compassion for patients who are most vulnerable. This nurse has a remarkable ability to connect with individuals who are confused, frightened, or experiencing significant distress. Rather than showing frustration, they take the time to sit with patients, listen to them, and engage them in meaningful conversation. Through patience and understanding, this nurse helps patients feel safe and respected.

One colleague shared an example of a patient who was extremely distressed and required significant intervention for safety. Valerie spent time sitting with the patient, talking with them, and truly listening to their concerns. Through calm communication, patience, and thoughtful care, the patient gradually became calmer and more comfortable.

Another colleague described witnessing the nurse gently redirect an elderly patient who was becoming anxious and restless. By engaging the patient in conversation and offering reassurance, Valerie was able to help the patient relax and refocus their attention in a positive way.

During busy shifts, when many healthcare professionals are focused on simply getting through the workload, Valerie reminds the team of why they chose this profession in the first place. Their compassion, positivity, and dedication help maintain morale and inspire others to provide the best care possible.

Colleagues consistently describe this nurse as someone who always puts the needs of patients and teammates first. They step up whenever help is needed and make themselves available without hesitation. This nurse’s compassion, leadership, and dedication make an extraordinary impact on both patients and colleagues.

I would like to nominate Valerie for the DAISY Award because they truly represents what it means to lead with respect, compassion, and heart. While leadership is part of their role, the way they support their team and care for everyone around them goes far beyond what is expected.

Valerie is the kind of leader who never hesitates to step in wherever help is needed. Whether it means coming in early, staying late, or assisting with patient care during busy shifts, they are always the first to offer support. They frequently lend a helping hand to ensure patients are moved safely or that care plans remain accurate and up to date. No task is ever considered beneath them—if it helps a patient or supports a colleague, they are there.

What truly stands out is this nurse’s kindness. No matter how stressful the day becomes, they maintain a positive attitude and a welcoming smile. Their presence makes people feel comfortable, valued, and supported. Rather than simply managing a team, this nurse fosters a sense of community among colleagues and sets the tone for collaboration, respect, and compassion.

Through their positivity, patience, and dedication, this nurse inspires others to do their best every day. Their leadership, teamwork, and commitment to patient care make a meaningful difference for both patients and staff.
