...On her way out of work, and already in her car ready to head home, an altercation in a nearby parking lot caught the attention of Valerie Mundy, RN. Rather than look the other way, Valerie flagged down two ED colleagues nearby. Together, they intervened - first, with Valerie alerting Security. What ensued was a sad story unfolding right in front of the three off-duty colleagues. A young lady was being assaulted by family, and left badly shaken. The women took the young lady to the ED for treatment as Security mediated the situation.

"I am fully confident that Valerie probably saved this young lady from being beaten to death," her nominator said. "I wanted her to be recognized for going the extra mile to keep her co-workers and patients safe."
