Val has been recognized by many of her fragile patients and their families for her compassionate care. She won our third quarter of 2011 DAISY award with the following two nominations:
• “At today’s meeting with Housekeeping staff you were recognized for your recent excellent care with two patients who were dying. One patient had lots of family present and you were quickly scurrying to address many needs with your kindness. One patient was unfortunately dying all alone and you sat with him and held his hand. Your actions had a huge impact for this patient, but also touched all who saw or heard about your care and kindness. “Thank you” is inadequate. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful….”
• A recent patient submitted this: “My dear Valerie, thank you so much for taking such good care of me. Sorry I was so much trouble with the heart and breathing problems and surgery. I know I called you a lot. Thanks for responding promptly. You have such a way of showing you care. Your new husband will love that in you. Thanks for letting me keep my modesty, bathing me, and letting me talk so darn much. You are top dog for nurses along with your team members. Thanks for the preventative care. Dr. B says my cancer is in the lab. Yeah Ha! Feels like I made a new friend in you. Take care, stay safe and have a wonderful life. Your parents must be so proud of you!”
