I was admitted to the 6th floor from the ED with an infection. I was hoping to get some IV antibiotics in the ED and be sent home. My mom was at a nursing home and her condition was poor. I knew she only had a short time and I was afraid I wasn't going to be there when she passed. I was very upset and crying; the night nurse listened and got me the telephone number so I could call mom.
The next morning, I learned my mother's condition had worsened. I asked to be discharged. At first, my request was declined, but after explaining was going on, the Doctor agreed to discharge me with some stipulations, of course.
Valerie Quick was great! She listened to me, supported me and made sure she got all the arrangements and paperwork taken care of for me to be discharged quickly.
My mom passed away later that day. If Valerie had not worked with the doctor and been so efficient, I would not have been able to be there when my mother passed away. Thank you, Valerie!
