Vanessa embodies the true spirit of nursing—supportive, patient, and selfless.
As a new nurse beginning both a new job and a new unit, the experience can often feel overwhelming. From the very beginning, Vanessa has consistently gone above and beyond to ensure that I felt supported and never alone in this transition. She always checked in on me, whether or not she was assigned as my preceptor for the day. Her patience and willingness to answer questions demonstrated her genuine commitment to teaching and mentoring.

Vanessa not only took the time to explain concepts thoroughly, but she also encouraged me to discover my own way of nursing, allowing me to develop my pace and confidence as I prepared to practice independently. Even after my preceptorship officially ended, she continues to check in with every nurse on the unit daily, asking how we are doing and offering help wherever it is needed.

I have also witnessed the same compassion and dedication in her interactions with patients. She gives each patient her full attention, answering all of their questions with patience and ensuring they have what they need to feel more comfortable during their stay. Her ability to extend the same level of care and support to patients as she does to her colleagues truly reflects the heart of nursing.

Her compassion, approachability, and dedication have made my transition into this role smoother and have strengthened my confidence as a nurse. Vanessa embodies the true spirit of nursing—supportive, patient, and selfless. I feel incredibly fortunate to have her as a mentor, role model, and colleague, and I believe she is truly deserving of the DAISY Award.
