Vanessa was nominated by the Team Leader School Health Nurse for Fayette County Public Schools, who reported Vanessa utilized bilingual communication skills and strong nursing judgment to recognize significant discrepancies in the insulin dosing a child was receiving at home that could have resulted in life-threatening complications. Vanessa facilitated communication with the parents to determine how the child?s diabetes was being managed at home and assisted the School Nurse to educate the parents regarding correct insulin dosing and diet.  She also arranged for additional assistance through the child?s physician and a diabetes educator. The School Nurse reported she felt Vanessa saved the child?s life that clinical day and was exceptionally pleased with her clinical performance.
