Nurse Vanessa, when learning of my prior Military service in combat in operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, quickly discerned that I may have Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and took it upon herself to take the time necessary to listen to my needs and concerns. She exceeded my expectations in communicating those needs to my physicians.
As examples of how Vanessa elevated her patient care above the norm, she accomplished several tasks. She carefully assisted me in removing an outdated surgical compression bandage, she always offered and provided in timely fashion needed pain relief medications, and she provided enormous support for my physical wellbeing by creatively facilitating a much-needed shower! She regularly rose above the rest of my care team with her conscientiousness and attention to detail and she always returned to complete her tasks when she said she would, exhibiting great integrity.
Throughout all of her tasks, she continuously exhibited a positive and upbeat personality. Because of Vanessa's compassion for her patients and her profession, my experience at St. John Hospital Main was positive. I feel like referring others to the St. John Hospital System now.
