What a dream come true, I was pregnant with a precious little girl and boy. Having twins was the ultimate dream for my husband and me. Everything was going so smoothly, one big blessing. Until one day the nightmare began.
My water broke at nineteen weeks and I was immediately taken to Broward Health Coral Springs. Tests were taken and fright started to fill our hearts and minds. The membrane of one baby had ruptured and the waiting game began. The goal was to keep both babies healthy until I reached a viable week and deliver the babies. As the days of waiting started, I was introduced to Vanessa. Everyday consisted of waking up and going to bed with fear for our babies health. The uplifting days were the ones where I was greeted by Vanessa's smiling face. Waiting day after day, time after time Vanessa stood beside us sharing her jokes and loving comments. As weeks went by things were looking promising thanks to Vanessa's positivity. Then the unexpected happened and one baby's heart stopped beating.
Vanessa assured me that it would be ok and focused on keeping me calm through this heartbreaking news. Many doctors then came in explaining what was happening and the possibilities in the most complicated form. Regardless of the time of her shift, Vanessa stayed and explained every word that the doctors stated until we understood it all. She explained to us every little detail. It was then when an infection began to go throughout my body and it wasn't an option but to deliver the babies.
Completely frightened and in so much pain at 21 weeks a complete natural birth occurred. Complications began to occur and without hesitation Vanessa became my advocate. After delivering Baby A, I was then dilated 6 centimeters with Baby B and was rushed into the OR. Without leaving my side Vanessa was there while being complete alert to waking up from this awful nightmare and receiving the news of losing my babies. Filled with lots of confusion and questions she was there to assist me in all ways possible.
The recovery road began and there again was Vanessa bringing me up to my next room/unit to make sure I received the best care possible. Days passed and my heart still filled with so much pain. Not being within Vanessa's unit or care anymore did not stop her from seeing me. On her own time Vanessa came up to another floor/unit to ensure my care and feelings were being taken care of. Sitting beside my family and me she began to share stories and general talk all to keep my mind at ease and place a smile on my face. I will never be able to forget this unbearable process, the loss of my precious babies.
One thing is for sure that Vanessa was there from the beginning until the end, directly by my side to pick me up through my life's most difficult time. Compassionate, hardworking, dedicated, loving, and considerate; these are a few words that come to mind when describing Vanessa's character and actions. A woman who places her heart and soul into her daily work and interactions has forever left an impact on my family's hearts. Throughout the lowest moments of our lives Vanessa was the light at the end of the tunnel.
The constant receiving of unbearable news soon became manageable with Vanessa's extensive explanation, open arms, and extended heart. She stood beside my loved ones and me through the most difficult journey we have ever experienced. Vanessa continued to shed her positive outlook and guidance on every situation that we were confronted with on a daily bases. She treated me as if I was her own and cared for me like no other. During this intolerable and heartbreaking time, I was blessed to be treated for by the most amazing nurse and woman. Broward Health Coral Springs and we are extremely lucky to have had such an incredible nurse serving us. She is a prime example of a model employee and represents the entire hospital in an astonishing way. My family and I will never be able to find the sufficient words to express our deepest gratefulness and love for Vanessa's care. Kindhearted, amazing, intellectual, and patient- that's just who Vanessa Fairfield is. She is one in a million.
