I wanted to take a moment to advise you about something that is so important to me and close to my heart. You have a patient who is my husband on your unit. He was admitted yesterday as he is in the last stage of Alzheimer's. I have been this route for the third time being in this unit. Unfortunately, his medications are 'off' which only make him more combative and upset. I've tried reaching his doctors, charge nurse, social worker, and the list goes on, until this morning when I spoke with a nurse Vardui.
I gave her so much information that I really did not think she was listening to my desperate situation. Hours later she called me back and said she spoke with the doctor, and they discontinued the medications that had adverse effects. My concern was not only for my husband, but the nurses who have to care for him that they are not exposed to undue harm or difficulty. She went that extra mile and even brought the Social Worker to me.
A few short hours later Vardui called me back. I was shocked. There are no words in any language to express my thanks and gratitude for a nurse who is so dedicated, efficient, compassionate and caring. It was as if a 100-pound weight was lifted off my back. I had become so frustrated and upset, and no one seemed to care or listen to me. However, Vardui was so genuinely concerned, not only for the patient but for me as well. I cannot tell you how I feel about her, as there are no words to describe such genuine concern for her patient. She even advised me that if I would come up to the hospital right after lunch, I would be able to feed my husband (who was not eating), and fortunately, he not only ate, but took his medications.
Kindly convey my gratitude to this unbelievably caring human being. May God bless her. Thank you for allowing me to express what was on my heart.
