When I arrived at the VA, I was in a lot of pain from an infection. Mr. Fanin was the first person I saw when I got to a room. He said to me he was a Vet and that made us brothers, for me not to worry, he had me every me. Every time he passed my room, he stopped and asked if I needed anything. He kept ice and water in my cup. When I sleep, I sweat badly. He made sure my bed was dry before he left his shift. He always cleaned and replaced the caps on my IV.
One night my IV broke. He told me he could replace it but he could cause me pain. He said he knew someone better than him, and the job was done with no pain. Later in the week, another one broke. It was Mr. Fanin’s day off. The nurse tried three times in my right arm and succeeded on the left. There were others that were very good, but Mr. Fanin was exceptional. I was late getting back to my room from another doctor and the food tray was gone. Mr. Fanin left my room and came back with the best meal of my stay at the VA. Mr. Vasiliy Fanin, thank you for your service.
