Veda Mackey is truly an extraordinary nurse. She has an inner joy that she shares with everyone, every day. She is optimistic, always sees the cup half full, and is fun to be around. Her laugh is infectious; it is hard to be in a bad mood when you are around her.
Veda has a compassionate approach to her patients, and a warm heart and a friendly attitude toward everyone she meets. She is a hard worker, a team player, and a reliable employee. She is always willing to help other team members without a moment's hesitation or complaint.
Day in and day out, she goes above and beyond in her efforts to serve HBPC veterans, families and staff. She continually exhibits enthusiasm, a sense of cooperation, and a sincere desire to improve care for veterans. She calls to check in on them frequently. She handles many tasks, such as arranging transportation, on her own rather than delegating to others. She takes the time to really listen to her patients and understand their needs.
When on the phone with difficult callers, she is always calm and collected and is usually able to calm the caller down and figure out how to best help them.
On a recent day, Veda was on the phone well over twenty minutes with the upset wife of a veteran. The wife continued to ask question after question that Veda was unable to help her with. Veda answered each question in a calm and quiet tone, never once losing her temper.
