Verna is very deserving of the DAISY award, according to the associate who nominated her. “Verna admitted a patient who went to the Cardiac Cath Lab for a procedure. Upon returning, Verna noticed a significant change in the patient’s assessment. Verna’s persistence in getting the physician to come down and reassess the patient and explaining the significant change, the provider ordered the patient to IR for a test and assessment of the situation. It was found if left untreated; it would have compromised an extremity. If Verna had not kept pushing, advocating for this patient, I have no doubt there would have been a different outcome. Her persistence in this situation is just one example of what she does each and every day with her patients in the Day Unit.”
