I would like to tell you about my experience at Medical Center Jewish East and recognize Veronica Speed for the exceptional care she provided my brother. B is 50 years old and has Down Syndrome. The surgery visit can be an overwhelming experience. I was so nervous and unsure of how B would react. From the moment we walked in the door everyone was so nice. Veronica Speed is an outstanding nurse who went above and beyond with B. Veronica had a unique ability to calm him. She took her time with B and showed great patience when caring for him. He was not able to swallow his medications: she tried everything from pudding, applesauce, and Jell-O to help him with his pills. She took great care when assisting him to the restroom and encouraging him to void. She even stayed with him while I went to fill his prescription so I would not have to stop on the way home.
I have been a nurse for 30 years and I have to say, Veronica Speed provided the best care my brother has ever had, she made him feel special.
