Veronika always works hard, gives the highest of care to her patients, and advocates for her patients. I like to think that everyone does this, however, Veronika takes it a step further. A mental health patient wanted to share his experience with Veronika as a nurse. He has a crisis at times and struggles at times with compliance with taking his medications, and even when he is doing everything his provider says, still will have occasions to "hear voices and not think a situation through." Veronika congratulated him on taking his medications and being in control of his healthcare. She was not judgemental that he came into the ED with a complaint that could have "been resolved with Ibuprofen," and encouraged him to be in charge of his care. Per the patient, Veronika identified that his schizophrenia may have been part of the reason he was in the ED, not the complaint he voiced at triage, and she developed a plan of care with the ED Provider that would better meet the actual needs of the patient. Veronika is upbeat, jumps in without being asked, and is so very passionate about the care that all of our patients should and do receive. I am so very grateful she chose PeaceHealth and our ED.
