Vicki has been described as the “face of nursing” for many here at Saint Joseph Hospital.
Vicki's career at Saint Joseph’s Hospital thus far has spanned 49 years. During these years she has provided compassionate care to many patients. Most of her years here were spent as a clinical nurse, where she precepted and served as relief charge in units such as Medical-Surgical Intensive Care, Hospice, Dialysis, and Telemetry. She has been an advocate for patient care as a safety champion, pain committee member, skin care resource, and end of life care campaigner. Her leadership and ambition for patient excellence is evident through her exemplary caring spirit, passion, stewardship, and integrity. Vicki is a constant source of joy- always sharing a smile and helping others to laugh. You can often find her sharing her love of cycling with her patients and co-workers.
As a master’s prepared nurse, Vicki serves as a role model for personal professional development. She maintains a specialty certification, has played an active part in our organization’s professional governance and has achieved the highest level of clinical ladder. She has also been nominated for a Nightingale Award, which exemplifies her dedication to the profession of nursing. Vicki has precepted, mentored, and served as a clinical scholar for many Saint Joseph’s nurses, including several clinical nurses who now serve as educators, managers, and directors. A personal example that comes to mind is sitting in a new grad class almost ten years ago and listening to a lecture on documentation by Vicki where she made it very clear to never, ever copy and paste any assessment because that is your license on the line.
Vicki is a cheerleader for us and always willing to give a hand and share her expertise. She has been described as the “face of nursing” for many here at Saint Joseph Hospital. She has inspired many nurses, at all levels, within our organization and has made a positive impact on the amazing culture that is Saint Joseph Hospital.
Vicki’s impact on future nurses expands outside of the walls of our hospital and into the greater nursing community. She is a transformational nursing leader in clinical nursing education. In addition to her Clinical Scholar work, she has been a member of professional nursing organization’s local chapters and participated in state-wide student placement efforts.
As you can see, Vicki embodies not only what it means to live our mission, vision, and values but also what the DAISY Foundation stands for.
