Vickie was empathetic, patient, dedicated, kind, and very compassionate.
My Mom was a patient at the WCCH Skilled Nursing Facility for one year. She suffered from Lewy Body Dementia and was a patient on the Peach Unit. We have a very close family and my Mom meant everything to my Dad, sister, brother, and l. My Dad came out to visit my Mom every day...sometimes twice a day. I live in San Diego, CA, and would try to come out every 3 months, but the distance made it hard. lt was during a time when COVID restrictions made it hard for family to visit and we could only see my Mom on FaceTime. What gave us comfort is that so many nurses and employees were exceptional at your healthcare facility, but there is one person that I would like to nominate for the DAISY Award. Vickie went above and beyond and provided excellent nursing care to my Mom. She always was an advocate for my Mom and kept me up to date with her care and any concerns she had. She genuinely loved and cared for Mom. She took the time to get to know me on the other end of the phone and when I came to visit.
One day ( I will never forget the day...Vickie called me to tell me there was a change in my Mom's health for the worse. She let me know that she cannot predict what will happen in the upcoming days but knew something just wasn't right. It was because of Vickie that I was able to spend the last 3 days of my Mom's life with her and be by her side. Vickie was empathetic, patient, dedicated, kind, and very compassionate. She went above and beyond and came to my Mom's church service the following week after she passed.
I have worked at AMN Healthcare for the past 22 years and work with Nurses every day in my job. Nurses are there for people's biggest moments in life...happy or sad. I am truly blessed to know Vickie and have her care for my Mom at the end stage of her life. I am thankful from the bottom of my heart. The Peach unit is lucky to have her. She is a true DAISY Nurse.
