Victor Garcia, BSN, RN, CEN
Victor has been a huge asset to our team. When my COM first shared his resume with me, I was a bit nervous that he wouldn't want the job after interviewing. Victor was overqualified for the position posted. He was coming from a fast-paced environment with a nonstop, high level of critical thinking to an outpatient setting. I thought he would get bored quickly working in an outpatient setting. Thankfully, I was wrong!
Victor and I connected immediately. He has a very approachable personality and was easy to talk to, so developing a connection came easily. He quickly developed a rapport with the rest of the staff in our clinic as well.
Victor has always been my person to lean on when we worked together and still is even though we no longer work alongside each other. There was a time when I was helping a male patient, and this patient started yelling and using profanities towards me. Victor, without hesitation, barged into the room and put himself between the male patient and me. He didn't need to do that, but he did because he is a natural protector. He has this calming demeaner about him and the male patient responded much better to another male than a female.
There was another time I had a young male patient who just seemed really uncomfortable talking about personal information to me, so I reached out to Victor to see if we could switch patients in order to help this young male patient relax enough to discuss his uncomfortable situation. It worked! Again, Victor never hesitated to help.
Victor is flexible. He volunteers to change his shift when other nurses are out to help fill in the gaps on the schedule. He is also a go-getter. After a few weeks of transitioning to Kaiser, he was asking for more ways to help the clinic. He saw how stressed our lead nurse was handling the things that keep the clinic running smoothly, so he stepped in to help take part of the load of our lead nurse. His organizational skills are impeccable, which really helped him take on even more things to help manage the clinic.
Victor is a highly skilled nurse who demonstrates professionalism with every patient, goes above and beyond for patients and other staff members, and is very deserving of the Daisy Award.
