As an RN in the Emergency Department, it is not easy to suddenly find yourself on the other side of care—becoming the patient in the very same ER where you work. When I was placed in that position, I was filled with discomfort and vulnerability, unsure how I would manage being cared for by my own colleagues. From the moment Victoria Booth stepped into my room, she set the tone for an entirely different experience. She showed me respect, dignity, and compassion that immediately helped ease my anxiety. She recognized how difficult it was for me to be the patient, and without me having to say much, she anticipated my needs and created a safe, supportive environment where I felt cared for—not just as a patient, but as a person.

Victoria went above and beyond to ensure my comfort. She consistently checked in on me, explained every step of my care in a way that helped me feel informed and reassured, and never once made me feel like a burden. She balanced professionalism with empathy, making me feel seen and heard throughout the entire process. What stood out the most was the respect she gave me.

She never minimized my feelings, and she treated me with the same kindness and compassion she would offer any other patient—despite the unique circumstances of me being her peer.  Victoria’s dedication, compassion, and ability to connect on a human level transformed one of my most vulnerable moments into one of gratitude. She is a shining example of nursing excellence.

Thank you, Victoria, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
