Victoria's expertise, compassion, and quick response definitely made a difference for this patient.
Victoria was working the recovery area at the star vaccine clinic on Monday (which was their day off), when one of the patient flow workers came and requested assistance for a patient with shortness of breath in the corridor area by the elevators. This nurse immediately went to assess the patient and recognized that she needed immediate help. The patient was already trying to give herself a breathing treatment and this nurse used the patient’s o2 sat monitor to check saturations. The patient’s saturations were in the 80s. This nurse got the patient in a wheelchair and retrieved the crash cart so that she could put the patient on a non-rebreather mask. The nurse then proceeded to call 911 from her personal phone to get first responders there to help facilitate getting the patient transported to a hospital facility. Her expertise, compassion, and quick response definitely made a difference for this patient. Some days we take for granted just what skilled nurses we have in our organization. What seemed like a normal day at the vaccine clinic for this nurse was actually life-changing for the patient. I am proud to work beside Victoria daily and to know that no matter the circumstance, she is always ready and willing to go the extra mile.
