Victoria went above and beyond to make sure that the patient's home, animals, and valuables were okay and safe since the patient attempted to put out the fire herself and was very under-educated about this.
There was an elderly woman who had checked in for possible smoke inhalation injury, and even though she had four other patients and charge she stepped into action and took the patient. This was much more than that, though. After talking to the patient, Victoria found out that the patient had put a fire out at her home herself and hadn't called the fire department. The patient was very unaware of fire safety and that she could utilize 911 without having to pay for them. Victoria educated them about this in a way that was kind and did not make the patient feel like she was "stupid" because the patient kept calling herself, so Victoria made sure that she kept her empathy with the patient. Victoria then went and called some connections that she had within the fire department to go check on the patient's home. Victoria was looking out for the patient not only from a medical aspect but also from a safety aspect that was more than just within the hospital. She went above and beyond to make sure that the patient's home, animals, and valuables were okay and safe since the patient attempted to put out the fire herself and was very under-educated about this. When the patient was leaving, she and her sister both made positive comments about Victoria, saying that she was so kind and that they were so appreciative of what she did today.

That is the example of a nurse that makes this department and this hospital great, is an asset to this community, and a nurse that is deserving of this award.
