Her kind, attentive spirit brought comfort and reassurance during the first few moments of my waking up.
I was recently a patient at TMH. During my stay, I had the opportunity to experience several different floors, settings, and departments, and I received excellent care. After several days in the hospital, I was scheduled to have a tumor resected from my brain. The entire pre-op/surgical team did an amazing job of attempting to keep anxiety low for me and my family. Every one of us was aware of the potential risks and complications of surgery, but thankfully, no complications occurred. Upon awakening in the PACU at the Mustain Center, I had the most amazing nurse Victoria Martinko. Her kind, attentive spirit brought comfort and reassurance during the first few moments of my waking up. My family wasn’t able to come back with me, and she did an amazing job of communicating with my husband, so he was aware I was awake and without any of the complications. She also then updated me about him and my family, which made my whole night. I ended up staying in the PACU overnight, waiting in a hospital room, and she was my nurse the following day. I had a few issues throughout the night, including being away from my family. She listened to my concerns and was able to get them all addressed and get my husband back to be with me. She communicated with the doctor and other nursing team members and got me to a better place on the unit where I could get up and move around. She is absolutely amazing and treats her patients holistically. I probably wasn’t the easiest patient to take care of based on my procedure, but she really put what was important to me first, and that meant everything. It is very easy to tell when you have a person who is working with you and who is there for just a job, but that is definitely not her. She has such a passion for her patients that I really wanted to do whatever I could so she could get recognized. I could never say thank you enough for how she treated me and my family.
