Because of her and her expert advice, he was able to get his kidney stone removed on Saturday afternoon and was able to go home on Sunday.
We would like to nominate Tori, who worked the night shift on the 7th floor while my husband, M, was a patient. What a wonderful addition to the nursing profession and to St. Luke's Hospital! We need more nurses like Tori: caring, knowledgeable, compassionate, and hardworking. She took the time to answer all our questions, whether about a procedure, a medication, or a test. We asked that my husband be given an ultrasound on Saturday, as he had a kidney stone and was in a lot of pain. He was also not eating much or drinking, and he had already lost 15-20 lbs. We were told that the ultrasound couldn't be done until Monday and wouldn't be read until Tuesday. After checking with Tori, she found out that an ultrasound could be done on Saturday and arranged for a technician to come to his room to perform it.

Because of her and her expert advice, he was able to get his kidney stone removed on Saturday afternoon and was able to go home on Sunday. She saved him from a lot more suffering and weight loss. The incident involving Tori that really made me want to nominate her for the DAISY Award is as follows: My husband had a shunt put in from his kidney to his bladder, and this caused him to lose control of his urine. In the middle of the night, he soaked the bed. After pushing the nurse's button, Tori was in the room within seconds. She did not hesitate to quickly change the bed and console the patient, who was embarrassed. She didn't think that it was beneath her to do such a task. She quickly completed it, and he was back in bed sleeping in no time. Thanks to a great nurse!
