She was caring and compassionate. She always spoke directly to my son when she needed to do anything with him.
My son was admitted through the ED with multifocal pneumonia and sepsis. He is a very large man and has severe autism, is totally non-verbal, incontinent and mentally retarded. He is often non-compliant when it comes to different situations, especially when it comes to medical treatment. Due to this fact, he can be intimidating to some people. Also, due to his inability to communicate and follow directions, sometimes he can be overlooked or treated differently than most. I think this goes for many people in our society who are disabled. Not in your hospital!!!!!! He was treated with the utmost respect and care that I could've asked for by all of the staff from the ED to the floor to the dietary staff. With that being said, one of your nurses stood apart from the crowd. I cannot sing the praises of this nurse enough.
Benedict was with us for the majority of our 5-day stay in the hospital. She was caring and compassionate. She always spoke directly to my son when she needed to do anything with him. He was not just a piece of furniture in the room. It did not matter to her that he could not respond to her or hold a conversation with her. She always had a smile on her face, and it is obvious that she loves her job. Not only did she take amazing care of my son, she made sure that I was taken care of too, as I stayed with him for the entire stay. If it were possible to fill every nursing position in our hospitals today with nurses like Benedict it would be amazing. She is a true DAISY Nurse.
