I was admitted to HH and that is where I met Vinh a very young and caring professional nurse who left a mark on my life. He exemplifies professionalism and was sensitive to my situation which gave me peace. I felt like I was in good hands, he said “if you need me, you push that button and call me”. I needed him when I was at my worst. I know the importance of addressing the needs of others; how the patient is feeling when they are getting cared for has an integral part in the healing process and recovery. We are sentient beings and when people in the healthcare profession have awareness, they give us more than just mechanical care. To me it appeared that Vinh was not just doing a “job”, he showed me who he really was with his skills and attitudes that conveyed to me the message “you are not alone, you are important, you are my patient, it is going to be ok”. It was not what he said, it was his actions and response to me.
