I recently had the opportunity to observe Ginny when she spoke to a reporter from the local newspaper about her job as a nurse, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her dedication and commitment to her profession were so evident. There is no doubt that she is passionate about her patients and cares deeply for them. She spoke about the challenges of the pandemic and that it can be tiring, yet she often steps up to take on extra shifts when the unit needs her. Ginny clearly works very hard to be the best nurse possible. She brought tears to my eyes when she spoke about how she tries very hard to give information to families when they are not able to come in to visit loved ones and has made special accommodations to help those who are passing. Her genuine caring nature is evident to all. What also makes Ginny special is that she has also faced her own health challenges, yet instead of stepping back and letting others carry the load, she continues to step up and put others first. As I listened to Ginny quietly and compassionately talk about being a nurse, all I could do was admire her. She truly is a healthcare hero and a very special nurse who deserves to be recognized. I have no doubt she has made a world of difference for many patients and families in her 30+ years as a nurse at Eastern Niagara Hospital.
