Our nurses were with us on a long journey, starting when my wife came in labor, all the way through most of her second stay after severe preeclampsia six days later. We were so scared to have to go to the ER with our 3-day-old baby when my wife’s blood pressure reading at home was unexpectedly high. It was a huge relief when we were immediately taken up to Labor and Delivery, and the first people we saw were our nurses. They took care of us during the delivery of our daughter, and they knew exactly who we were when we ended up back in the hospital. When my wife was put on IV magnesium, our nurse knew it would make her feel like she had a fever. Our nurse personally prepared the room for us and set up a fan and ice packs to help my wife be more comfortable. Our nurse was so caring and conscientious about my wife's care throughout the several nights she was on duty while we were there. The next nurse told us that our nurse wanted to make sure to “pass on her love” after her last shift with us, which really meant a lot. It sure felt like all the nurses truly cared about our little family, and that just really underscored it. The preeclampsia was a scary and challenging time, but we feel like we received amazing care, both medical and, well, human. Thank you so much to all of our nurses for making our birth experience there one that fills us with gratitude, even though we had a scary complication. To our special nurses, thank you for your skill and compassion throughout that rollercoaster!
