Nurse Vy is an extraordinary nurse for sure. She went above and beyond her call of duty of being a “health care” worker. During my son’s brief stay in the PICU, she managed to leave a permanent stamp on his heart. She didn’t just care for him though. She cared for me as well. Not one time did I have to ask for anything. As she administered care, she also observed closely what did and did not work for him. For example, she provided my son with the allevyn heel borders when she realized he wouldn’t be able to walk much. Even before then when we arrived to PICU from the ER, she took one look at him and asked, “why isn’t he wearing the neck brace” that was removed before getting to her. She also made sure I could sleep as comfortably in the room with my son as possible. Nurse Vy left such a strong and lasting impression on my son. When we moved from PICU, he was so sad because he didn’t want to leave her. But just as she promised, she stopped by at the end of her shift to bring well wishes and words of encouragement. Vy is a gem. Memorial Hermann is blessed to have her.
