May 2022 Honoree
Wanda Cheney, BSN, RN
I brought my 82-year-old husband to the American Lake, VA for emergency care as he was very dizzy and had a hard time staying upright. It was extremely difficult for me to get him there as I am 72 and couldn't hold him up very well. The lady at the front desk told me that the walk-in service had been terminated, but she called to the back to see if a nurse would come out to check my husband's vitals.
Nurse Wanda Cheney came out. She was so kind and helpful. She treated us with respect and compassion. She took us back to the treatment room and began checking everything, including his blood sugar, EEG for his heart, blood pressure, pulse, and oxygenation. Wanda got a doctor to come and together, they figured out the problem. Wanda didn't have to do any of this as the front desk had told us to go to another facility. She went way above her responsibilities and helped and elderly couple in our time of need.
