The care that Wanda provided and her thoughtful, kind, and friendly demeanor brought a smile to my mom’s face and made her feel a bit more comfortable and well taken care of.
My mom was admitted to the hospital and stayed a week in 3FARR unit. Over the course of this time, I stayed with her a majority of the time (Only going home to shower and change) in order to make sure she was ok and to help communicate with the staff at the hospital. While all the nurses were good, Wanda was one of the best nurses that my mom had during her stay. Wanda not only did the normal things that all the other nurses do, but she really stood out because of the empathy and initiative that she has. Wanda was always looking for ways to make my mom feel more comfortable, and during the entire 7days stay, she and her trainee were the only two nurses who took the time and effort to refresh and change the bed linens, sponge down my mom and change her gown, etc, so she could feel clean and fresh. Just being in a clean and well-made bed makes all the difference when you are restricted to a bed 24/7, and this was something that Wanda just thought to do without having to be asked. Wanda was also very attentive and constantly checked in on my mom throughout the night. Even if mom was sleeping, she would crack open the door and just check to make sure that everything was good and that we didn’t need anything. Just taking a few extra minutes from her busy shift to do this every so often meant so much and was very much appreciated whether or not we had a need. Being in a hospital is never fun, but the care that Wanda provided and her thoughtful, kind, and friendly demeanor brought a smile to my mom’s face and made her feel a bit more comfortable and well taken care of. Wanda only worked two shifts of the nights during my mom’s stay, but I know my mom would have loved to have her as her nurse every single night if she could have!
