My son recently underwent four surgeries at Sidra Medicine and was confined for six days in this unit. Staying in the hospital that long was emotionally draining, but with the help, dedication, and compassionate care of some of the nurses, things became much easier for both my son and me.

Because of this, I am truly delighted to recognize Nurse Waseella, who cared for my son. She is an excellent critical thinker, able to quickly analyze situations and make sound decisions. I vividly remember one evening when my son woke up crying inconsolably from post-surgery pain. Around 5:30 p.m., he was awakened by a buildup of sticky saliva that irritated his throat, causing him to cough severely.

Having just undergone multiple surgeries, including a tonsillectomy and G-tube procedure, the coughing led to vomiting and added pain at the G-tube site. Unfortunately, the extension tube was still attached, pulling each time he moved, as it had not been removed in the morning. At that moment, I was panicking. I called for help, and the evening nurse arrived.

I explained the situation. With sharp critical thinking and swift action, the nurse immediately assessed the problem. She checked the tube, fixed the leak, administered treatment, removed the extension tube, cleaned the G-tube site, changed the beddings (which were soiled with vomit), and even called housekeeping to clean the floor. She solved the problem within minutes. Her competence, quick judgment, and compassionate care brought tremendous relief to both my son and me.
