My son was admitted to Neurotrauma ICU for an ATV accident. My son had never been treated or even stayed in a hospital before. He was so scared being only able to see his family for a limited time. Mr. Wem Oaks not only shared with us his compassion and skills, with us living 2 hours away he provided everything we needed. He comforted our son while we drove to our home, 2 hours both ways, for supplies to stay with our son.
While we were away, he explained to my son, if he would do as the doctor explained, he would play "checkers" with him. Not only did this occupy my son's mind from being scared from the "unknown" it also gave us time to do the things we needed. Mr. Oaks even walked with my son and showed him the "sunshine" through the window, knowing he loves the outdoors. We go to the hospital expecting skills and good care but not a family friend!
