In the 16 years that Wendy has worked at Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, she has gained the respect of both her peers and providers by being a compassionate, caring and competent nurse and co-worker. She excelled in her leadership role in the Emergency Department, becoming one of our first CPI and PALS instructor, our first Stroke Coordinator and a preceptor for many nursing students and orientees. She is credentialed in Ultrasound-Guided IVs and helps our more difficult patients throughout the hospital get an IV when other nurses are unsuccessful.
When our hospital decided to apply for Accreditation to become a Stroke Ready Facility, Wendy applied and was selected to be our first Stroke Coordinator. Under her leadership, we gained our Accreditation from The Joint Commission. After our first year, our hospital was awarded the Bronze Award from the "Get with the Guidelines", American Heart Association. Wendy worked diligently with all involved departments to continuously improve our processes to improve patient care. She shared real-time feedback with the Emergency Department team and inpatient team members so that we were always aware of our opportunities for improvement. She held monthly meetings to share our progress with the Stroke Team as well as our leadership team. She also became our ASLS instructor and began holding classes for the team to get certified. Under Wendy's leadership, we improved our care and this year our hospital was awarded the Silver Plus Award from "Get with the Guidelines", American Heart Association. Wendy exemplifies, on a daily basis, the best nursing can truly achieve. She is a very humble person, and her joy comes from making a difference in the lives of our patients who come through our Emergency Department.
Wendy has recently received another promotion and now serves as the Assistant Nurse Manager for the Emergency Department.
Because of Wendy's invaluable contribution to the Emergency Department and the Nursing Department, in general, we are a better team, a better department, and a better hospital as she daily displays our values of integrity, compassion, accountability, safety, and teamwork.
