April 2009 Honoree
wendy nichols, RNC, IBCLC
On 1/28, a patient came to the ER with acute abdominal pain. The patient had previously delivered a baby on 1/15 and the baby had been in the NICU and discharged on 1/26. While the baby was in NICU, Wendy helped the mother with breast feeding. I don't know how Wendy knew the patient was in the ER since she came in by ambulance, but Wendy sat with her, and saw to it that she received pain medicine. She even stopped by before she got off to see if the patient would be admitted and arranged for her to use a breast pump while in the hospital. Her compassion toward this person (who wasn't even her patient anymore) is what the DAISY award is all about.
Thank you, Wendy, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
