We were blessed with Wendy, who saw my father like a family member and made sure to take extra time to listen to his verbal and non-verbal communication so that he could get the best care possible.
My father was a patient for a week and a half. In that time, there were a lot of rough days and challenges. Some health and some from the environment around him. My father had multiple health situations going on, which required a combination of tenderness, patience, communication, and commitment to care. He had a couple of nurses who checked off some of those boxes, but there was only one nurse who truly highlighted those traits. That Nurse is Wendy! She brought joy into the room each and every day. She personified patience, explaining treatments, fielding questions, and empathizing with the many emotions a hospital room can bring out. A big issue with seeking care when English isn't your first language can be the barrier of communication and the desire for Nurses to want to try or give the same attention they would normally give, especially if the patient's family is not present at the time. Fortunately, we were blessed with Wendy, who saw my father like a family member and made sure to take extra time to listen to his verbal and non-verbal communication so that he could get the best care possible.

With the help of her attentiveness and rapid response to care my dad left better health-wise than he came in and developed a newfound trust in the hospital's care in general. Wendy is a beacon of light in a time where dark times are all around and should be recognized for her exceptional passion for her job and what it entails.
