My aunt brought up the restlessness, and Wesley went right over to my grandfather, took his hand, leaned in close, addressed him by name, and asked if he was in pain.
My grandfather had a stroke, fell, and broke his hip. They decided that palliative and Hospice care were appropriate. The first day he was in the hospital, he was responsive, but the second day, he slept all day. Around 7:30 pm, he seemed to wake up and seemed restless, but was unresponsive to us. My aunt told me that the previous day, he had been hallucinating about tying up the recycling, and so we assumed that's what was happening. At that time, Wesley came on shift. My aunt brought up the restlessness, and Wesley went right over to my grandfather, took his hand, leaned in close, addressed him by name, and asked if he was in pain. My grandfather responded to him and said yes. Wesley told him that he would be providing medication to take away the pain. I was so impressed because when my mom had talked to my grandfather, he had not seemed responsive. And as soon as Wesley came in, he took his hand and was able to communicate with him. When I checked in the following night, my mom replied that Wesley was back on shift, and she was so comforted by his presence. Thank you, Wesley.
