Weylin Hamilton, BSN, RN
When our family first heard the words that our mother's cancer was in its advanced stages, everything seemed to slow down and blur at the same time. We were overwhelmed, scared, and unsure of what came next. In the middle of that uncertainty, Weylin became a steady, compassionate presence we didn't even realize we needed. From the moment he walked into the room, he treated our mother with kindness and dignity that immediately put us at ease. Sometimes she struggled to stay mentally present, drifting in and out of conversations, but Weylin never rushed her. He spoke gently, gave her time to respond, and met her exactly where she was in each moment. His patience was remarkable; it never felt forced or procedural, but deeply human.
As a family, we had so many questions, and often we did not even know how to ask them. Weylin took the time to explain everything clearly: what medications he was giving, why they were necessary, and what we could expect. He made sure we understood, not just by talking, but by listening. He answered every question with care and respect, never making us feel like we were asking too much.
What stood out as much as his medical knowledge was how he cared for our mother's comfort. He adjusted her pillows with such attention, making sure she was positioned just right. He helped arrange her bedside table, so everything was within reach. He encouraged her to eat and drink, thoughtfully ordering options that might appeal to her even when her appetite was low. These may seem like small acts, but in those moments, they meant everything. Weylin did not just care for our mother; he cared for all of us. He brought calm into a situation that felt impossible to navigate.
Because of him, we could focus a little more on being present with our mom, rather than being consumed by fear and confusion. We will never forget the compassion, patience, and genuine humanity Weylin showed our family during one of the hardest times in our lives. He is truly an extraordinary nurse, and we are so grateful for the care he gave our mother.
